“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him …”<\/em> (Colossians 2:6)<\/p>\n

We are commanded to “walk” through this life as followers of Christ.\u00a0 This walk is said to be \u201cin him.”\u00a0 This little prepositional phrase is actually set before the imperative giving is special emphasis.\u00a0 The antecedent of the pronoun (“him”)\u00a0is clearly the loaded statement \u201cChrist Jesus the Lord.\u201d\u00a0 The preposition \u201cin\u201d probably marks out the sphere in which the believer\u2019s life is to be carried out.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This simple phrase “in him” is used extensively in this letter to the Colossian believers to set forth dramatic and profound truths.\u00a0 It was \u201cin him\u201d (lit.; “by\u00a0him,” ESV)\u00a0that all things were created (Col. 1:16).\u00a0 It is \u201cin him\u201d that all things hold together (1:17).\u00a0 The Father was pleased to have all His divine fullness dwell \u201cin him\u201d (1:19).\u00a0 Indeed, it is \u201cin him\u201d that \u201cthe whole\u00a0fullness of deity dwells bodily\u201d (2:9)! With the next swipe of his pen the Apostle says it is \u201cin him\u201d that each child of God has \u201cbeen made complete\u201d (NASB, 2:10).\u00a0 Satan and all demonic powers have been defeated \u201cin him\u201d (2:15).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now consider that we are able and responsible to make our way step by step through this life \u201cin him\u201d!\u00a0<\/p>\n

What is this journey to which we have been called?\u00a0 What honor! What responsibility!\u00a0 What possibilities!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
