{"id":1156,"date":"2012-06-14T10:55:27","date_gmt":"2012-06-14T14:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/?p=1156"},"modified":"2013-06-26T11:18:07","modified_gmt":"2013-06-26T15:18:07","slug":"hurry-up-lord","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/?p=1156","title":{"rendered":"Hurry up, Lord!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Psalm 69 David is in trouble.<\/p>\n<p>We can identify.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201c\u2026 the waters have come up to my neck\u201d (v.1)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold\u201d (v.2a)<\/li>\n<li>\u201c\u2026 the flood sweeps over me\u201d (v.2b)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/HeadInHands.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1137\" title=\"HeadInHands\" src=\"https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/HeadInHands.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"239\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And where is God? \u201cMy eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.\u201d (v.3b)<\/p>\n<p>As the prayer continues, David cries out three times: \u201cAnswer me\u201d! (vv.13, 16, 17).<\/p>\n<p>Nothing new here. We\u2019ve all do it. We\u2019ve all done it many times. And we should.<\/p>\n<p>What is interesting to me is the juxtaposition of the time elements David links to his cry. Look at them this way \u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>At an acceptable time<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>answer me<\/strong><\/em><\/span> in your saving faithfulness &#8230; <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>make haste<\/strong><\/em><\/span> to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>answer me<\/strong><\/em><\/span>&#8221; (vv.13b, 17b)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Out of his obvious distress, David calls upon God to save him. On the one hand he asks God to save him (&#8220;answer me&#8221;) <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em>&#8220;At an acceptable time,&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/span> yet he very quickly repeats the request (&#8220;answer me&#8221;) telling Him to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><em>&#8220;make haste.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Translation: &#8220;God, answer me, whenever it might be in your will, <em>but let it be today<\/em>!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the trauma of distress I often do my best to bow to the Lord&#8217;s timing, but at the same time feel I must hear from Him immediately. The pendulum ride from patience to panic is frequent and swift. In this I am not alone, for David knew it as well. And so we, with him, sometimes pray: &#8220;At an acceptable time &#8230; make haste&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Heavenly Father, I too, like David, live in the midst of real circumstances. Often I conclude things are critical before you join me in that evaluation. Give me steadfastness and patience in waiting on you. But please, O God, do act upon your promises and on my behalf.
