But Christ transforms suffering for His people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I. Suffering is a test to pass.<\/strong> (12)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Timing &#8230; it is unexpected. (&#8220;do not be surprised&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>Feelings &#8230; it is painful. <em>(&#8220;fiery<\/em> trial&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>Purpose &#8230; it is refining. (&#8220;fiery <em>trial<\/em>&#8220;)<\/li>\n<li>Duration &#8230; it seems endless (&#8220;when it comes &#8230; were happening&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>Identity &#8230; it is confusing. (&#8220;Beloved &#8230;the fiery trial &#8230; comes upon you&#8221;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>II. Suffering is fellowship to enter.<\/strong> (13-14)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When you share Christ&#8217;s sufferings, He shares His Spirit with you.<\/li>\n<li>Suffering comes before and leads to glory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>III. Suffering is choice to make.<\/strong> (15-16)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We can choose to suffer for doing wrong. (15)<\/li>\n<li>We can choose to suffer for doing right. (16)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>IV. Suffering is a judgment to face.<\/strong> (17-18)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Judgment for the believing = discipline. (17a)<\/li>\n<li>Judgment for the unbelieving = destruction. (17b-18)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>V.
