{"id":3408,"date":"2021-07-13T14:12:39","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T18:12:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/?p=3408"},"modified":"2021-07-13T14:12:39","modified_gmt":"2021-07-13T18:12:39","slug":"forgotten-words-of-the-faith-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/?p=3408","title":{"rendered":"Forgotten Words of the Faith: Session"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New words.\u00a0 Old words.\u00a0 New words are welcome words.\u00a0 Old words are wealthy words.\u00a0 In other words we want all words!<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve been discussing words of our faith that have fallen on hard times.\u00a0 They have been passed over as pass\u00e9.\u00a0 They\u2019ve been deemed old fashioned, obsolete, outdated, and outmoded.\u00a0 Unfortunately we haven\u2019t always found new words to carry the truth of the words we\u2019ve left at the curb.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pen-and-paper.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3384\" src=\"https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pen-and-paper-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"676\" height=\"451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pen-and-paper-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pen-and-paper-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pen-and-paper-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pen-and-paper-676x451.jpg 676w, https:\/\/jkitchen.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/pen-and-paper.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a word we don\u2019t hear much anymore: <strong>session<\/strong>.\u00a0 One reason we don\u2019t hear the word much is that is a <em>theological<\/em> word rather than a <em>biblical<\/em> word.\u00a0 That doesn\u2019t mean the truth it conveys isn\u2019t taught in the Bible, but rather that it is a word used by thinkers-about-God to describe what the Bible does in fact teach.\u00a0 In that regard it is not unlike the word Trinity.\u00a0 You won\u2019t find it in your concordance, but you\u2019ll find its truth throughout the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>When we use the word session it refers to \u201cthe session of Christ.\u201d\u00a0 Or, to put it another way, it designates the fact that Christ currently is seated at the right hand of God the Father.\u00a0 Our English word comes from an Old French word which in turn came from a Latin word which described, simply, \u201cthe act of sitting.\u201d\u00a0 We still say \u201cthe court is in session,\u201d meaning the judge is in place, seated and conducting a trial.\u00a0 Christ\u2019s session was prophesied in the Old Testament (Psalm 110:1), predicted by Christ when on earth (Luke 20:41-43), and fulfilled in fact as recorded in the New Testament (Mark 16:19).\u00a0 Having died, having been raised, and having ascended to heaven, Christ was seated by the Father at His right hand.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cWhen He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high\u201d<\/span> (Heb. 1:3b).\u00a0 This great fact is marvelous for many reasons.<\/p>\n<p>For one thing the truth of <strong><em>Christ\u2019s session puts our efforts to gain God\u2019s favor to rest<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 The fact that Christ \u201csat down\u201d indicates that His work is complete, entire, finished.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> \u201cBut when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God\u201d<\/span> (Heb. 10:12).\u00a0 We can rest in Christ\u2019s finished work of atonement for our sins.\u00a0 Christ\u2019s session proves He was correct when He cried from the cross, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cIt is finished!\u201d<\/span> (John 19:30).<\/p>\n<p>The truth of <strong><em>Christ\u2019s session puts our hearts at rest<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 <em>All our enemies are defeated<\/em>.\u00a0 God\u2019s own power was <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cexerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.\u00a0 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church\u201d<\/span> (Eph. 1:20-22).\u00a0 Christ is He <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cwho has gone into heaven and is at God&#8217;s right hand&#8211; with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him\u201d<\/span> (1 Pet. 3:22).\u00a0 Be at rest!\u00a0 <em>All our sins have been paid for<\/em>.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cThe point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven\u201d<\/span> (Heb. 8:1).\u00a0 Be at rest!\u00a0 <em>All accusations against us have been silenced!<\/em>\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cWho is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died&#8211; more than that, who was raised to life&#8211; is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us\u201d<\/span> (Rom. 8:34).<\/p>\n<p>The truth of<strong><em> Christ\u2019s session directs our focus<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cSince, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God\u201d<\/span> (Col. 3:1).\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cLet us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God\u201d<\/span> (Heb. 12:2).<\/p>\n<p>The truth of <strong><em>Christ\u2019s session enables our obedience<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Having been seated Christ joined the Father in sending the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cExalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.\u201d<\/span> (Acts 2:33)<\/p>\n<p>The truth of <strong><em>Christ\u2019s session fuels our hope<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Jesus said, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cTo him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne\u201d<\/span> (Rev. 3:21).<\/p>\n<p>Christ our King is on His throne!\u00a0 All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him.\u00a0 All His enemies have been put under His feet.\u00a0 And He is in place to assure the application of His salvation to you.\u00a0 Christ sat down.\u00a0 So be at rest!\u00a0 Stop striving for acceptance.\u00a0 Stop worrying.\u00a0 Start looking.\u00a0 Start obeying.\u00a0 Start expecting.\u00a0 The King is in session!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New words.\u00a0 Old words.\u00a0 New words are welcome words.\u00a0 Old words are wealthy words.\u00a0 In other words we want all words!
